Arbitrum - developed by Offchain Labs - is a next-generation layer-2 solution for the Ethereum blockchain. It enables faster and more scalable transactions by utilizing off-chain techniques to bundle and submit transactions as a single transaction to the Ethereum base layer. By employing Optimistic Rollups, Arbitrum achieves cost-effective gas fees while leveraging Ethereum's layer-1 security.
Please be aware that all transaction fees on Arbitrum are payable in ETH.
MetaMask is the leading and widely-used wallet software that is compatible with various Ethereum-based blockchains, including Arbitrum, the home of FortunX. With MetaMask, you can securely store your assets, make purchases, and seamlessly connect to blockchain apps.
To use MetaMask, you have different options based on your device. For PC users, MetaMask is available as a browser extension, which you can install on Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Edge, and Opera. On iOS and Android, you can download the MetaMask app.
We'll use Chrome as an example!
Go to https://metamask.io/ and click on the "Download" button.
Click on the "Add to Chrome" button then on the pop-up window click "Add extension".
Once installed, agree to Metamask's Terms of use and click "Create a new wallet".
On the next page click "I agree" or "No thanks" based on your preference. Then set a password that will allow you to access the Metamask wallet on the device you are setting it up. Tick the box and click "Create a new wallet".
Click the "Secure my wallet" button and then the "Reveal Secret Recovery Phrase" button.
Write down the 12 words in the correct order and store it somewhere safe. That's the only way you can restore your wallet in case of a browser reset or forgetting your password. Once you're done click "Next".
Fill in the missing secret recovery phrases and click "Confirm".
Your Metamask is ready to use. Just click "Got it!".
Click on the extension's icon and pin it. You can access your wallet by simply clicking on the Metamask logo. Note that at the moment of creation, it only supports the Ethereum Mainnet. We'll add Arbitrum next.
In this guide, we assume that you're using a Metamask wallet.
Go to https://chainlist.org/ and click "Connect Wallet".
Look for Arbitrum One and click "Add to Metamask".
When your wallet notifies you, click on the 'Approve' button. In the following pop-up click "Switch network".
Now you use the Arbitrum network. You can switch networks by opening Metamask and clicking on the network.
Click on Metamask and then click on the "Import tokens" button.
You can either search for tokens by typing in a token symbol (USDT) or add a custom token by providing a token's contract address. If you'd like to use the latter, please read this guide here.
You can withdraw tokens from centralized exchanges like Binance to your Metamask wallet by selecting the Arbitrum network. Most centralized exchanges support withdrawing tokens such as ETH through Arbitrum.
You can also bridge tokens through your Metamask by following these steps:
Go to https://portfolio.metamask.io/ and connect your wallet if not already
Go to the Bridge tab, select the networks, the token and the amount you'd like to bridge. Choose the best quote and click "Submit transaction".
Wait a couple of seconds until the bridge is successful.
For advanced users, we recommend using https://www.orbiter.finance/ for bridging as it's more cost-efficient.
